Animal Urine in the News

In September, an Illinois newspaper printed a story about Dan Aeschleman's business: selling fox urine. Farmers and other property owners buy the urine and spray it on their land to keep animals away because they can sense the odor of a predator. Aeschleman, who sells about 10,000 gallons of the fox urine a year, says the hardest part of his job is collecting it from the foxes.

Dave Hoyes of Pennsylvania, meanwhile, sells deer urine to hunters, who use it to hide their scent from their prey. His story made the newspapers because of a legal battle with the county tax assessor. County officials claim Hoyes runs a regular business, and are demanding he pay the taxes that businesses pay. But Hoyes, who wants to pay the lower taxes that farmers pay, declared himself a deer farmer.

Maybe Dave should talk to Dan.
