Phobia-mania!

Fear can be a very useful emotion. It helps keep you safe under most conditions. For instance, you probably wouldn't leave your house if you heard on the news that a tiger was loose in your neighborhood.

But sometimes fear can get out of hand. Imagine: what if you wouldn't leave your house because it was a cloudy day, and you were afraid of clouds (nephophobia)? Or your neighbor's garden was in bloom, and you were afraid of flowers (anthophobia)? Or you wouldn't even get out of bed, because you were afraid of gravity (barophobia)? As silly as it sounds, some people are afraid of those things.

An intense, irrational fear is called a "phobia". People who suffer from phobias feel as though they are facing real threats from harmless things.

Many people have phobias, and there are phobias about nearly everything you could imagine. Maybe you have some yourself. Here's a short list of some common phobias.
