The Pentagon and UFOs
According to the Department of Defense (DOD), the Pentagon has opened an office dedicated to investigating UFO sightings.
The office, known by the acronym AARO (All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office), will collect, investigate and catalogue sightings of UFOs (now labeled UAPs for Unidentified Aerial Phenomena) from across the DOD, including the Army, Navy and Air Force.
According to an article by Brandon Specktor on Live Science, “The U.S. government has taken a renewed interest in UFOs over the past several years, following the 2017 leak of three now-infamous video clips showing mysterious, wingless aircraft soaring at hypersonic speeds past some dumbfounded U.S. Navy pilots.”
After years of treating people who report seeing UFOs with ridicule and skepticism, which no doubt reduced the number of UFO reports, the military now welcomes reports of sightings. In June 2021, the Navy released a report of more than 140 UAP sightings by navy personnel. The report states it is an “intelligence assessment of the threat posed by unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP).” The report also detailed the progress the Navy has made in understanding the nature of UAPs, which is very little. For instance, the report noted that in many of the sightings, UAPs “maneuver abruptly or move at considerable speed, without discernible means of propulsion,” which we don’t know how to do.
